The "Elders" ProgramElders are rising 7th and 8th graders who want to attend Camp Blazing Trails and get a taste of what it is like to be a counselor. The idea is to empower the Elders with the passion, energy, and leadership that it takes to be a Y counselor one day. These campers will learn about leading groups and activities, while working with the counselors under the direction of the Elders Coordinator, Morgan "Mama Llama" LeSieur. More specific information is available via the Camp Coordinator upon request.
Teen Overnight InformationTeens will stay after camp on Thursday, July 18th, spend the day with their counselors participating in fun activities, sleep at the Finley Y, and come to camp on Friday, July 19th! Campers must be enrolled in Camp Blazing Trails at least one session in the summer to be eligible. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with the Camp Coordinator if you have further questions.

Camp Blazing Trails 2013 Daily Logistics
Camp Blazing Trails runs off-site at Blue Jay Point Park. We operate out of the parking lot next to the playground, which is where you will want to drop off and pick up your camper(s) each day. Simply follow the signs!
Camp runs from 8:30 AM-1:00 AM each day. The Rides-In drop-off lane runs from 8:30 AM-9:00 AM and the Rides-Out pick up lane runs from 12:30 PM-1:00 PM every day.
What to Bring Each Day
- One lunch and one snack (no nut products, please!).
- Please pack your camper's lunch in a durable/strong lunch container, to protect against squirrel lunch infringement.
- Your camper has the option of bringing his/her own fishing pole and/or life jacket for canoeing/fishing days (every Wednesday). Poles and life jackets will be provided for the campers who do not bring said items.
- Water bottle or a drink (no red or purple juices, please!).
- Towel, swim suit, change of clothes, and water shoes (optional) for Water Day (every Tuesday except June 11th).
- Change of clothes, in case of an accident.
- Campers should wear sandals with straps (such as Keens), water shoes, or tennis shoes that can get dirty. Tennis shoes are heavily emphasized! We are hiking through the woods daily!
- Please apply sunscreen at home (the Y is unable to apply sunscreen to campers without a medication release form).
- Walking stick (more info at the bottom of the page).
- Please label all items and send them to camp in a backpack.
- A smile!

MedicationIf medications need to be given during program hours, please review the YMCA policies below. Our staff cannot administer medicine to any camper without the following:
1. A completed and signed Medication Form which is available at the program office. A PDF of this document is available HERE. 2. A written and dated note from your physician for ANY over the counter medicine. 3. All prescription medication must be kept in the original container in which it was received from the pharmacy. The container should include the prescribing doctor‘s name, name of medication, procedures for use, and the child‘s name. Any medication sent to camp must be checked with the Director or Camp Coordinator by the parent/guardian. |
Inclement Weather PlanYou will always drop off your child at Blue Jay Point county park regardless of the weather. In the event of severe weather, we will update our voicemail at (919) 815-1242 after 7:30am to inform you if we will be bussing our campers to an alternate indoor location. Regardless, you will still drop off at Blue Jay Point. If it rains, thunderstorms, or sprinkles after camp has begun, we will operate on a normal schedule. Whether or not we have the same activities as planned is up to mother nature! In the event we are relocated, we will expect all children to be dropped off at camp no later than 9:00am. The YMCA will be providing transportation from Blazing Trails to the North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene. Keep in mind that camp will continue to run at normal times with or without relocating. We will expect all children to be picked up at the North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene no later than 1:00pm on any given rain day. Please keep in mind these changes and contact us with any questions or concerns. The North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene is located at 9200 Strickland Road (at the corner of Six Forks and Strickland Rd).

Only at Camp Blazing Trails...
BeadsEach camper who attends Camp Blazing Trails will receive a bead string (seen above attached to a walking stick) on his or her first day at camp to put on their walking stick. These strings are very important to your children so please help them take care of them. Throughout each day at camp your child will have the opportunity to earn beads for his or her walking stick by displaying a YMCA character trait, by participating in activities, by showing spirit in assemblies, and by being a good friend. We have many different beads that represent a plethora of different meanings. If your child loses his or her bead sting, there is a $1.00 charge to replace it. You may also want to keep a list of the beads that your child earns so that the beads can be replaced on the walking stick. We do not keep a record of beads earned for each child.
